Air Traffic Incident | Pilot Deviation other |
Narrative:
First officer (flying) responded to an RA on the TCASII to descend (no traffic was observed on TCASII nor was traffic called out by ATC prior to alert). A sink rate was established in accordance with RA (1800-2000 FPM down). The RA extinguished still showing a TA followed immediately by another RA showing the green arc at 500 FPM descent with the red arc below it. At this time we corrected our descent back to a climb. At this time the RA extinguished. We overshot our leveloff (9000 ft) so we descended back to 9000 ft. We alerted ATC of our RA and deviation. Flight continued to slc without further incident. Targets appearing then disappearing is a common problem. This is the first time I've had a target appear with an immediate RA.

Title: FLC FOLLOWED TCASII RA AND DEVIATED FROM ASSIGNED ALT.
Narrative: FO (FLYING) RESPONDED TO AN RA ON THE TCASII TO DSND (NO TFC WAS OBSERVED ON TCASII NOR WAS TFC CALLED OUT BY ATC PRIOR TO ALERT). A SINK RATE WAS ESTABLISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH RA (1800-2000 FPM DOWN). THE RA EXTINGUISHED STILL SHOWING A TA FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY ANOTHER RA SHOWING THE GREEN ARC AT 500 FPM DSCNT WITH THE RED ARC BELOW IT. AT THIS TIME WE CORRECTED OUR DSCNT BACK TO A CLB. AT THIS TIME THE RA EXTINGUISHED. WE OVERSHOT OUR LEVELOFF (9000 FT) SO WE DSNDED BACK TO 9000 FT. WE ALERTED ATC OF OUR RA AND DEV. FLT CONTINUED TO SLC WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. TARGETS APPEARING THEN DISAPPEARING IS A COMMON PROB. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD A TARGET APPEAR WITH AN IMMEDIATE RA.
