Narrative:

Inbound on knox arrival to ord we were in and out of base of clouds bordering a line of thunderstorms. We had just deviated around a thunderstorm and advised chicago center we needed to slow down from 310 KTS assigned due to turbulence. Chicago told us to increase to 300 KTS when possible and we rogered that. When turned over to approach he asked us our speed which was still 250 KTS in moderate turbulence and told us next time we wanted to slow to tell him. We had not sped back up and had the impression we had done something wrong. No further problems were encountered.
