Narrative:
I accepted a clearance to cross 35 mi north of lakeland VOR at 13000 ft. I made a maximum effort on the descent, but crossed the fix at 14500 ft. This incident occurred because I did not realize at the time I accepted the clearance how close I was to the fix. Also, ZJX forgot how high we were. At 29000 ft and only 62 mi from lakeland he issued the clearance. That left me only 27 mi to lose 16000 ft. In the future, I will double-check my distance and altitude instead of randomly acknowledging the clearance. Some clrncs, such as this one, are impossible for anyone to make.
