Narrative:
We had been given a climb to 13000 ft. Our ACARS was inoperative so after passing 10000 ft I was off frequency reporting our out and off times. I was discussing our revised ETA with operations when the altitude aural warning sounded. When I checked our altitude we were at 13400 ft. We immediately leveled and simultaneously received a climb clearance to 17000 ft. Captain was hand flying the aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 306230: climbed through altitude by 400 ft (13400 ft), due to lack of attention caused by radio conversation.
