Narrative:
During descent towards scy VOR ZFW gave us several heading changes, and several step down altitudes. We were never advised of conflicting traffic, nor did I see any on TCASII. In the meantime I asked the first officer to contact company and give an 'in range call' and talk to maintenance about a problem we had. We were cleared to 13000 ft and I descended to 12600 ft. I was concerned about making a 7000 ft crossing restr, 6 mi northwest of scy VOR. We had just swapped airplanes, after flying a B737/300 with automatic level off to a B737/200 without automatic leveloff. The first officer was distracted by the company radio. ZFW seemed confused giving several level off altitudes and heading changes.

Narrative: DURING DSCNT TOWARDS SCY VOR ZFW GAVE US SEVERAL HDG CHANGES, AND SEVERAL STEP DOWN ALTS. WE WERE NEVER ADVISED OF CONFLICTING TFC, NOR DID I SEE ANY ON TCASII. IN THE MEANTIME I ASKED THE FO TO CONTACT COMPANY AND GIVE AN 'IN RANGE CALL' AND TALK TO MAINT ABOUT A PROB WE HAD. WE WERE CLRED TO 13000 FT AND I DSNDED TO 12600 FT. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT MAKING A 7000 FT XING RESTR, 6 MI NW OF SCY VOR. WE HAD JUST SWAPPED AIRPLANES, AFTER FLYING A B737/300 WITH AUTO LEVEL OFF TO A B737/200 WITHOUT AUTO LEVELOFF. THE FO WAS DISTRACTED BY THE COMPANY RADIO. ZFW SEEMED CONFUSED GIVING SEVERAL LEVEL OFF ALTS AND HDG CHANGES.
