Narrative:
While en route from gulfport, ms, to lake charles, la, in VFR conditions approach control gave us a descent to 1500 ft. Once we were level at 1500 ft approach called the airport at 1-2 O'clock. We turned about 7 mi final after we were cleared for the visual. Once on final we noticed that our back course didn't come alive and the NDB needle was off to the left. At this time we realized that we had turned final for lake charles chennault industrial instead of lake charles regional. As we started to brake off the approach, regional's tower called and informed us that we were lined up for the wrong airport. We landed at lake charles regional without incident. This situation would have been avoided if when approach called the airport it would have mentioned the other airport. The airports are about 3 mi apart and have similar runways. We broke off our approach to chennault at about 5 mi and while we were still at 1500 ft. At no time were we in conflict with any other aircraft.
