Narrative:
Heading north advised ATC we would need to turn no further east than north to avoid WX. ATC allowed deviation as necessary for WX. As we approached the thunderstorms ATC requested a turn east into thunderstorms to avoid a military warning area. We refused due to WX and were told to squawk 7700. Clear of WX and warning area squawk normal. We feel more advance notice of conflict with warning area could have given us other options.
