Narrative:
After landing and during roll out, front nose gear failed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter states the aircraft was a cessna 310 which is 30 yrs old. This is not an uncommon problem in this aircraft according to his mechanic. The FAA inspector which came to the scene said he sees this quite often. The propellers, engines, gear doors and nose of the aircraft were damaged. Most discouraging to the reporter was that he had just recently had the struts overhauled and serviced. He feels this was probably a poor design, but considering the age of the aircraft not much can be done.
