Narrative:
The captain flew an ILS approach to runway 30 at lgb. There was a small aircraft on approach behind us, and another small aircraft on approach to runway 25R. Runway 30 has a displaced threshold with 8010 ft available beyond the threshold. After touchdown the tower (local controller) instructed us to 'turn left at kilo, contact ground.' she then added what sounded like 'kilo is just south of the windsock.' the copilot had the airport chart out, and saw the taxiway sign for kilo just south of the windsock. The arrow on the kilo sign appeared to point to the immediate left. The captain turned left just prior to the windsock. The copilot called ground controller and reported clear of the runway at kilo. Ground control told us we had turned left onto runway 16R which is not stressed for large aircraft. He told us to turn left on delta. The crew had not seen a runway sign for runway 16R and it was an inactive runway. On the airport chart there is no marking for kilo on the west side of runway 30, and the placement of the kilo taxiway sign was confusing. Also there is no notation on 10-9 or 10-10 charts about runway 16R being weight restr for taxi. It would also had been clrer where kilo was if controller had said 'second left turn.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TAXI CLRNC CONFUSION.
Narrative: THE CAPT FLEW AN ILS APCH TO RWY 30 AT LGB. THERE WAS A SMALL ACFT ON APCH BEHIND US, AND ANOTHER SMALL ACFT ON APCH TO RWY 25R. RWY 30 HAS A DISPLACED THRESHOLD WITH 8010 FT AVAILABLE BEYOND THE THRESHOLD. AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE TWR (LCL CTLR) INSTRUCTED US TO 'TURN L AT KILO, CONTACT GND.' SHE THEN ADDED WHAT SOUNDED LIKE 'KILO IS JUST SOUTH OF THE WINDSOCK.' THE COPLT HAD THE ARPT CHART OUT, AND SAW THE TXWY SIGN FOR KILO JUST S OF THE WINDSOCK. THE ARROW ON THE KILO SIGN APPEARED TO POINT TO THE IMMEDIATE L. THE CAPT TURNED L JUST PRIOR TO THE WINDSOCK. THE COPLT CALLED GND CTLR AND RPTED CLR OF THE RWY AT KILO. GND CTL TOLD US WE HAD TURNED L ONTO RWY 16R WHICH IS NOT STRESSED FOR LARGE ACFT. HE TOLD US TO TURN L ON DELTA. THE CREW HAD NOT SEEN A RWY SIGN FOR RWY 16R AND IT WAS AN INACTIVE RWY. ON THE ARPT CHART THERE IS NO MARKING FOR KILO ON THE W SIDE OF RWY 30, AND THE PLACEMENT OF THE KILO TXWY SIGN WAS CONFUSING. ALSO THERE IS NO NOTATION ON 10-9 OR 10-10 CHARTS ABOUT RWY 16R BEING WT RESTR FOR TAXI. IT WOULD ALSO HAD BEEN CLRER WHERE KILO WAS IF CTLR HAD SAID 'SECOND L TURN.'
