Narrative:

Aircraft's go around capability was demonstrated and the traffic pattern was re-entered in the landing confign. The plan was to leave the gear down for the pattern. Several other aircraft in the pattern required a high level of communication and scanning. Pattern was adjusted (wider and extended). Because of flight over the city, the gear was retracted to reduce power required (noise considerations). Although the original plan to leave the gear down was deviated from, no new plan was formulated to re-complete the written pre-landing checklist. On short final, I was distracted by the passenger who was questioning whether or not there was an aircraft on the runway. (There was not). This caused sufficient distraction to miss my normal short final gear down check. (As well as the written before landing checklist which was not re- accomplished).

Narrative: ACFT'S GAR CAPABILITY WAS DEMONSTRATED AND THE TFC PATTERN WAS RE-ENTERED IN THE LNDG CONFIGN. THE PLAN WAS TO LEAVE THE GEAR DOWN FOR THE PATTERN. SEVERAL OTHER ACFT IN THE PATTERN REQUIRED A HIGH LEVEL OF COM AND SCANNING. PATTERN WAS ADJUSTED (WIDER AND EXTENDED). BECAUSE OF FLT OVER THE CITY, THE GEAR WAS RETRACTED TO REDUCE PWR REQUIRED (NOISE CONSIDERATIONS). ALTHOUGH THE ORIGINAL PLAN TO LEAVE THE GEAR DOWN WAS DEVIATED FROM, NO NEW PLAN WAS FORMULATED TO RE-COMPLETE THE WRITTEN PRE-LNDG CHKLIST. ON SHORT FINAL, I WAS DISTRACTED BY THE PAX WHO WAS QUESTIONING WHETHER OR NOT THERE WAS AN ACFT ON THE RWY. (THERE WAS NOT). THIS CAUSED SUFFICIENT DISTR TO MISS MY NORMAL SHORT FINAL GEAR DOWN CHK. (AS WELL AS THE WRITTEN BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST WHICH WAS NOT RE- ACCOMPLISHED).
