Narrative:

Climbing to 3000 ft (through 1400-1500 ft) in MVFR/IFR when medium to large bird appeared in front of us. I took over controls from student and banked left to avoid bird. Bird impacted on right wing, approximately 3 ft from tip. Alerted ATC of bird strike and initially requested to return to home base airport (6pa4). After a second look at wing, elected to land at rdg to inspect damage. Entered downwind runway 36 and landed. Inspected damage. It appeared to have created a flat spot on leading edge of wing approximately 4 inches by 4 inches. Aircraft remains at rdg awaiting repairs.
