Narrative:
As we entered the airport area we were informed by approach control that we would be put on downwind (runway 16) for separation. We turned toward the airport 90 degrees to runway 16. We were not turned downwind until we were nearly at the field. We proceeded downwind until given a right turn to crosswind (060 degree heading). This heading pointed us at traffic landing on runway 17R (an MD80). We were forced to take evasive action (TCASII RA) to avoid this aircraft. This incident was the result of poor vectoring by approach (too close in). No TA was made by approach.

Title: WDB ON VISUAL APCH FOR RWY 16 GOT INTO CLOSE PROX WITH AN MD80 ON VISUAL FOR RWY 17R. WDB GOT TCASII RA AND TOOK EVASIVE ACTION ACCORDINGLY.
Narrative: AS WE ENTERED THE ARPT AREA WE WERE INFORMED BY APCH CTL THAT WE WOULD BE PUT ON DOWNWIND (RWY 16) FOR SEPARATION. WE TURNED TOWARD THE ARPT 90 DEGS TO RWY 16. WE WERE NOT TURNED DOWNWIND UNTIL WE WERE NEARLY AT THE FIELD. WE PROCEEDED DOWNWIND UNTIL GIVEN A R TURN TO XWIND (060 DEG HDG). THIS HDG POINTED US AT TFC LNDG ON RWY 17R (AN MD80). WE WERE FORCED TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION (TCASII RA) TO AVOID THIS ACFT. THIS INCIDENT WAS THE RESULT OF POOR VECTORING BY APCH (TOO CLOSE IN). NO TA WAS MADE BY APCH.
