Narrative:
Air carrier X on final approach to msp runway 11R outside FAF at 5000 ft, 2 other aircraft were approaching from our left on apparent approach to msp runway 11L, a B757 at 5000 ft and a DC9 at 6000 ft. After a moment it became clear the B757 was getting too close and the controller gave us a right 240 degree heading and we got a TCASII alert to 'descend, descend now.' the controller then gave us a descent to 4000 ft and we turned and descended as instructed and came back around for another approach. Once on the ground I called the approach supervisor and he said, 'there was training going on and a mistake was made and both controllers were pulled off and given a talking to.' the supervisor then apologized and said he would take no further action. We were accused of not descending to 4000 ft when asked by the in-training controller. Not true, we were instructed to descend to 4000 ft after given the turn off the approach and after the TCASII alert.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR X, TCASII RA, HAD LTSS FROM B757 ON PARALLEL RWY. SYS ERROR.
Narrative: ACR X ON FINAL APCH TO MSP RWY 11R OUTSIDE FAF AT 5000 FT, 2 OTHER ACFT WERE APCHING FROM OUR L ON APPARENT APCH TO MSP RWY 11L, A B757 AT 5000 FT AND A DC9 AT 6000 FT. AFTER A MOMENT IT BECAME CLR THE B757 WAS GETTING TOO CLOSE AND THE CTLR GAVE US A R 240 DEG HDG AND WE GOT A TCASII ALERT TO 'DSND, DSND NOW.' THE CTLR THEN GAVE US A DSCNT TO 4000 FT AND WE TURNED AND DSNDED AS INSTRUCTED AND CAME BACK AROUND FOR ANOTHER APCH. ONCE ON THE GND I CALLED THE APCH SUPVR AND HE SAID, 'THERE WAS TRAINING GOING ON AND A MISTAKE WAS MADE AND BOTH CTLRS WERE PULLED OFF AND GIVEN A TALKING TO.' THE SUPVR THEN APOLOGIZED AND SAID HE WOULD TAKE NO FURTHER ACTION. WE WERE ACCUSED OF NOT DSNDING TO 4000 FT WHEN ASKED BY THE IN-TRAINING CTLR. NOT TRUE, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO DSND TO 4000 FT AFTER GIVEN THE TURN OFF THE APCH AND AFTER THE TCASII ALERT.
