Narrative:
Ft worth center advised us to cross porks intersection at 10000 ft MSL and the STAR shows 250 KTS. Also, the captain was aware of restr and was using autoplt with economy (normal) descent. Approaching porks intersection we were aware that the altitude restr would be met, but requested approach control's need for 250 KTS. They said they needed 250 KTS and the captain tried to accomplish, but was a bit fast at porks intersection. He was trying to use the company's procedures for a fuel economy descent, but did not slow to 250 KTS exactly at porks intersection. I do not believe that there was a conflict of any sort, nor were we advised of a problem by center or approach at any time, but I do feel that something can be learned from this occurrence. Greater attention to crossing altitudes-speeds should be accomplished. If normal autoplt functions are not sufficient for rates of descent or speeds needed to comply with restrictions, turn off and manually comply with same. If xings-speeds cannot be met, notify ATC as far ahead as recognized and request additional instructions- clrncs.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR FLC FAILED TO MEET INTXN XING SPD RESTR.
Narrative: FT WORTH CTR ADVISED US TO CROSS PORKS INTXN AT 10000 FT MSL AND THE STAR SHOWS 250 KTS. ALSO, THE CAPT WAS AWARE OF RESTR AND WAS USING AUTOPLT WITH ECONOMY (NORMAL) DSCNT. APCHING PORKS INTXN WE WERE AWARE THAT THE ALT RESTR WOULD BE MET, BUT REQUESTED APCH CTL'S NEED FOR 250 KTS. THEY SAID THEY NEEDED 250 KTS AND THE CAPT TRIED TO ACCOMPLISH, BUT WAS A BIT FAST AT PORKS INTXN. HE WAS TRYING TO USE THE COMPANY'S PROCS FOR A FUEL ECONOMY DSCNT, BUT DID NOT SLOW TO 250 KTS EXACTLY AT PORKS INTXN. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A CONFLICT OF ANY SORT, NOR WERE WE ADVISED OF A PROB BY CTR OR APCH AT ANY TIME, BUT I DO FEEL THAT SOMETHING CAN BE LEARNED FROM THIS OCCURRENCE. GREATER ATTN TO XING ALTS-SPDS SHOULD BE ACCOMPLISHED. IF NORMAL AUTOPLT FUNCTIONS ARE NOT SUFFICIENT FOR RATES OF DSCNT OR SPDS NEEDED TO COMPLY WITH RESTRICTIONS, TURN OFF AND MANUALLY COMPLY WITH SAME. IF XINGS-SPDS CANNOT BE MET, NOTIFY ATC AS FAR AHEAD AS RECOGNIZED AND REQUEST ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS- CLRNCS.
