Narrative:
On departure runway 8R elp we had ewm tuned in to join J50 (081 degree radial) instead of elp. Departure control had us on a 065 degree vector to join J50. Before handing us off to ZAB departure controller gave us two subsequent 5 degree right turns. Had just realized our mistake when ZAB asked our assigned heading and if we had been given clearance to join J50. We were in a right turn when we answered affirmative and they pointed out that we had not done so. We then told center we were in a turn to join J50. No other comment from center regarding incident. A simple careless mistake.

Title: MD80 FLC TRACKED A RADIAL FROM THE WRONG VOR RESULTING IN A HDG TRACK DEV DEV FROM CLRNC RTE.
Narrative: ON DEP RWY 8R ELP WE HAD EWM TUNED IN TO JOIN J50 (081 DEG RADIAL) INSTEAD OF ELP. DEP CTL HAD US ON A 065 DEG VECTOR TO JOIN J50. BEFORE HANDING US OFF TO ZAB DEP CTLR GAVE US TWO SUBSEQUENT 5 DEG R TURNS. HAD JUST REALIZED OUR MISTAKE WHEN ZAB ASKED OUR ASSIGNED HDG AND IF WE HAD BEEN GIVEN CLRNC TO JOIN J50. WE WERE IN A R TURN WHEN WE ANSWERED AFFIRMATIVE AND THEY POINTED OUT THAT WE HAD NOT DONE SO. WE THEN TOLD CTR WE WERE IN A TURN TO JOIN J50. NO OTHER COMMENT FROM CTR REGARDING INCIDENT. A SIMPLE CARELESS MISTAKE.
