Narrative:

While flying at 7000 ft in cruise condition about 20 mi south of seal beach VOR, I saw an L-1011 pass us at 8000 ft heading the same direction (north). I heard approach control clear the L-1011 to 7000 ft (our altitude) and slow. At 2 mi south of seal beach we encountered severe wake turbulence. Our airplane went into a rapid roll to the left and the plane pitched down. After recovery I asked ATC what the distance was between us and the L-1011. They would not answer me until I asked 3 times. Then they said current distance 8 1/4 mi.
