Narrative:
Flight was cleared to 10000 ft. Just prior to 9000 ft on climb out the #1 primary flight display and high density screens went blank accompanied by a disconnect of the autoplt. I took over control manually but allowed the aircraft to climb to 10800 ft before recovering to 10000 ft. The incident occurred due to my attention being diverted from flying the aircraft to evaluating the display failures and autoplt disconnect. Contributing factors were the high rate of climb just prior to autoplt disconnect, the absence of an aural altitude warning on this aircraft and the failure of the PNF to make the standard '1000 ft' callout.
