Narrative:
Failed to reset altimeter passing FL180 on climb. Once reaching cruise altitude of FL280, we were immediately descended to FL220. Altimeter remained set at 30.43. This resulted in a 400 ft altitude deviation. We caught the error when queried by ATC.
