Narrative:
Parking at gate in hnl we shut down #3 engine last, using 'fuel valve off' technique, as our APU was inoperative. 3-5 mins after completing the parking check, a mechanic notified us that #3 engine was smoking. We initiated our procedure for tailpipe fire and the fire went out. A ground mechanic used a ground fire extinguisher and fired it into the tailpipe area.
