Narrative:
Sbound on A300 at FL330, line north of elwod, requested deviation through HF relay. Had to start deviation on captain's emergency authority/authorized due to communication lag. Advised by air carrier radio deviation wasn't approved due to the 30 mi request to the east which would have conflicted with A523. Phone patch with ATC controller got us the deviation. She said it was no problem since we only actually needed 14 NM east of course. ATC said there was no conflict or problem with the deviation. However we are filing this due to us using captain's emergency authority/authorized on the 14 mi east deviation.
