Narrative:
Airport runway had a displaced threshold due to high trees at the takeoff end. After looking, pilot began takeoff run and after completing 2000 ft of takeoff roll noticed a biplane pull off to the right. It was assumed biplane was landing but had not been observed by traffic taking off and therefore initiated a go around. Problem could have been avoided if trees at takeoff end of runway had been lower and landing traffic had been observed prior to takeoff.

Title: SMT DEPARTING NON TWR ARPT HAS NMAC WITH BIPLANE LNDG.
Narrative: ARPT RWY HAD A DISPLACED THRESHOLD DUE TO HIGH TREES AT THE TKOF END. AFTER LOOKING, PLT BEGAN TKOF RUN AND AFTER COMPLETING 2000 FT OF TKOF ROLL NOTICED A BIPLANE PULL OFF TO THE R. IT WAS ASSUMED BIPLANE WAS LNDG BUT HAD NOT BEEN OBSERVED BY TFC TAKING OFF AND THEREFORE INITIATED A GAR. PROB COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF TREES AT TKOF END OF RWY HAD BEEN LOWER AND LNDG TFC HAD BEEN OBSERVED PRIOR TO TKOF.
