Narrative:

Upon shutdown of aircraft, I was notified by ground personnel that smoke was emerging from our center engine. We motored it to clear any residual fuel, flames shot out from the front and rear of #2 engine nacelle. I fired the internal fire extinguisher and flames stopped, smoke stopped. Fire fighters inspected the engine for any further fire and left the scene. Maintenance is investigating to find the source of the problem. Probable cause could be failure of the primary engine driven boost pump, causing the engine to flame out during after landing checklist. The start lever was not moved to off position for another 1-2 mins, allowing fuel to still enter the engine, causing the smoke. Motoring ignited the fuel. The fire extinguisher aided the motoring in clearing out the fuel supported fire. Air carrier is actively pursuing maintenance questions of what would cause this to occur.

Title: ACFT FUEL EQUIP PROB CREATES AN ENG TAIL PIPE FIRE AT THE RAMP IN A NIGHT OP.

Narrative: UPON SHUTDOWN OF ACFT, I WAS NOTIFIED BY GND PERSONNEL THAT SMOKE WAS EMERGING FROM OUR CTR ENG. WE MOTORED IT TO CLR ANY RESIDUAL FUEL, FLAMES SHOT OUT FROM THE FRONT AND REAR OF #2 ENG NACELLE. I FIRED THE INTERNAL FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND FLAMES STOPPED, SMOKE STOPPED. FIRE FIGHTERS INSPECTED THE ENG FOR ANY FURTHER FIRE AND LEFT THE SCENE. MAINT IS INVESTIGATING TO FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROB. PROBABLE CAUSE COULD BE FAILURE OF THE PRIMARY ENG DRIVEN BOOST PUMP, CAUSING THE ENG TO FLAME OUT DURING AFTER LNDG CHKLIST. THE START LEVER WAS NOT MOVED TO OFF POS FOR ANOTHER 1-2 MINS, ALLOWING FUEL TO STILL ENTER THE ENG, CAUSING THE SMOKE. MOTORING IGNITED THE FUEL. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AIDED THE MOTORING IN CLRING OUT THE FUEL SUPPORTED FIRE. ACR IS ACTIVELY PURSUING MAINT QUESTIONS OF WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS TO OCCUR.
