Narrative:

Crew involved in missing build-ups in area on climb out from fll and missed assigned altitude of 3000 ft and continued climb to approximately 4700 ft. Crew member (flight engineer) glanced up and noticed altitude reminder set at 3000 ft at which time immediate descent to 3000 ft was made. Contributing factor was fatigue of crew from 2 previous days of maximum crew duty day, and not enough sleep and rest. Due to time of the day there appeared to be no conflict with any other aircraft. ATC did not call up or question altitude. I believe the most significant factor was fatigue. FARS should be tightened to force carriers to allow more sleep and rest to include some travel factor to and from hotels.
