Narrative:
We were cleared the tandy 2 arrival, fellows transition to orange county. We were heading about 100 degrees (the transition is flw 123 degree radial) and about 8 DME. My CDI was centered on 123 degrees and showing a 'from.' the captain was on fillmore 148 degrees (the next course). ZLA told us to come 20 degrees right, then 40 degrees right to rejoin. We immediately selected 'first officer on auxiliary' for my CDI and the captain selected flw 123 degree radial as we turned back to course. While on 'first officer on auxiliary,' the CDI centered along with the captain's CDI. We wrote up the VOR #2 and it was entered in the logbook and dmi per MEL. We contacted ZLA supervisor and he advised us there was no conflict but they were just giving us an advised heading for our navigation. Supplemental information from acn 315799: #2 had failed with no flags in view.
