Narrative:
I was flying to 6m2 from cvk on my first solo after a signoff. I failed to check NOTAMS, consequently, I did not find out the airport was closed. I was on final and saw a large, but somewhat unclr X on the end of the runway. I was concentrating too hard on one thing for it to register in my mind that the airport was closed. I called but got no answer on unicom on my way to the airport. There were 2 people on one end of the runway, but I still had close to 4000 ft to land, so I proceeded to land. After landing I taxied to the end of the runway leaving around 700-1000 ft away from the people, and took off in the opposite direction. Upon having taken off, I returned to cvk and went home, returning oct/wed/95. My flight instructor made me read over again the section on runway markings, then gave me hell over landing on a closed runway. He then proceeded to explain the purpose of this form, its 3 yr limitation, and the fact that I am never to screw up this bad again. I have promised to learn to divide my attention between more than one thing while in flight, and I have learned to check NOTAMS before every flight.

Title: STUDENT PLT LANDS ON CLOSED ARPT DURING A SOLO XCOUNTRY.
Narrative: I WAS FLYING TO 6M2 FROM CVK ON MY FIRST SOLO AFTER A SIGNOFF. I FAILED TO CHK NOTAMS, CONSEQUENTLY, I DID NOT FIND OUT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED. I WAS ON FINAL AND SAW A LARGE, BUT SOMEWHAT UNCLR X ON THE END OF THE RWY. I WAS CONCENTRATING TOO HARD ON ONE THING FOR IT TO REGISTER IN MY MIND THAT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED. I CALLED BUT GOT NO ANSWER ON UNICOM ON MY WAY TO THE ARPT. THERE WERE 2 PEOPLE ON ONE END OF THE RWY, BUT I STILL HAD CLOSE TO 4000 FT TO LAND, SO I PROCEEDED TO LAND. AFTER LNDG I TAXIED TO THE END OF THE RWY LEAVING AROUND 700-1000 FT AWAY FROM THE PEOPLE, AND TOOK OFF IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. UPON HAVING TAKEN OFF, I RETURNED TO CVK AND WENT HOME, RETURNING OCT/WED/95. MY FLT INSTRUCTOR MADE ME READ OVER AGAIN THE SECTION ON RWY MARKINGS, THEN GAVE ME HELL OVER LNDG ON A CLOSED RWY. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO EXPLAIN THE PURPOSE OF THIS FORM, ITS 3 YR LIMITATION, AND THE FACT THAT I AM NEVER TO SCREW UP THIS BAD AGAIN. I HAVE PROMISED TO LEARN TO DIVIDE MY ATTN BTWN MORE THAN ONE THING WHILE IN FLT, AND I HAVE LEARNED TO CHK NOTAMS BEFORE EVERY FLT.
