Narrative:
Exceeded 250 KTS below 10000 ft. Exceeded 20 KTS in airport control zone. Landed at airspeed well above comfort factor but well within aircraft limitations. Contributing factors: late night and long day. CRM factors: captain allowed himself to push aircraft speed too high in order to expedite landing. Alienated crew by jeopardizing us with possible far violation. First officer, not forceful enough verbally to cause captain to slow aircraft, and cause captain to execute go around in order to re-establish comfort factor during approach and landing. First officer notified union's professional standards committee in order to document problem for future and past judgement lapses by this crew. Supplemental information from acn 318887: during descent to land, airspeed exceeded 250 KTS to 280 KTS below 10000 ft. Returned to below 250 KTS approximately 7000 ft. Due to higher than reported winds, also exceeded 200 KTS within airport traffic control area by 20 KTS. Touchdown uneventful at 160 KTS.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SPD DEV IN VIOLATION OF FARS.
Narrative: EXCEEDED 250 KTS BELOW 10000 FT. EXCEEDED 20 KTS IN ARPT CTL ZONE. LANDED AT AIRSPD WELL ABOVE COMFORT FACTOR BUT WELL WITHIN ACFT LIMITATIONS. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: LATE NIGHT AND LONG DAY. CRM FACTORS: CAPT ALLOWED HIMSELF TO PUSH ACFT SPD TOO HIGH IN ORDER TO EXPEDITE LNDG. ALIENATED CREW BY JEOPARDIZING US WITH POSSIBLE FAR VIOLATION. FO, NOT FORCEFUL ENOUGH VERBALLY TO CAUSE CAPT TO SLOW ACFT, AND CAUSE CAPT TO EXECUTE GAR IN ORDER TO RE-ESTABLISH COMFORT FACTOR DURING APCH AND LNDG. FO NOTIFIED UNION'S PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS COMMITTEE IN ORDER TO DOCUMENT PROB FOR FUTURE AND PAST JUDGEMENT LAPSES BY THIS CREW. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 318887: DURING DSCNT TO LAND, AIRSPD EXCEEDED 250 KTS TO 280 KTS BELOW 10000 FT. RETURNED TO BELOW 250 KTS APPROX 7000 FT. DUE TO HIGHER THAN RPTED WINDS, ALSO EXCEEDED 200 KTS WITHIN ARPT TFC CTL AREA BY 20 KTS. TOUCHDOWN UNEVENTFUL AT 160 KTS.
