Narrative:

First officer was flying at the time the incident happened. We had been on duty for 12 hours. We were both tired. We were climbing to assigned altitude of 5000 ft. The altitude warning came on at 5300 ft. I got the first officer's attention and he stopped the climb at 5500 ft. He then descended directly down to 5000 ft within 30 seconds.

Title: FLC OF AN SMT TURBOPROP TWIN OVERSHOT CLB ALT AND QUICKLY RECOGNIZED THEIR MISTAKE AND RETURNED TO ASSIGNED.

Narrative: FO WAS FLYING AT THE TIME THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. WE HAD BEEN ON DUTY FOR 12 HRS. WE WERE BOTH TIRED. WE WERE CLBING TO ASSIGNED ALT OF 5000 FT. THE ALT WARNING CAME ON AT 5300 FT. I GOT THE FO'S ATTN AND HE STOPPED THE CLB AT 5500 FT. HE THEN DSNDED DIRECTLY DOWN TO 5000 FT WITHIN 30 SECONDS.
