Cleared for takeoff, in climb 1000 ft tower gave us traffic and to turn only south. We saw aircraft ahead of us. He appeared to be on right downwind for runway 25. We had to take evasive action turn to right (north) and climb to avoid. If we had flown the departure given we would have turned into him and contacted.
