Narrative:
It was IMC this morning. My departure airport, Y47, new hudson, is uncontrolled. I needed a clearance. We used to get clrncs via radio in the air. Dtw recently has asked us not to do anymore (for their convenience, they said it makes them too busy). Instead they have asked us to phone clrncs before departure. I have done so in past. However, with only the 10 mins void time, running from the phone booth, to car, to aircraft, to (with aircraft) run-up area, and finally perform run-up, not enough time! To avoid this craze, I took my cellular phone into the aircraft. I then called dtw (on the ground) after my run-up, with engine running. Near impossible to hear. I received and read back clearance. I took off and climbed to 'my cleared?': yqg VOR. Dtw said I was 'cleared' to fly and climb heading 250 degrees. Apparently I misheard clearance. Recommendations: allow us to use radio, in air, while still VMC, for clearance, give longer void times, give a ground frequency for Y47 pilots. I called dtw and spoke to a manager. His recommendation: call an hour in advance for a 10 min window void time. Note: they should make this more 'public information' through mailings.

Title: POSSIBLE TRACK DEV.
Narrative: IT WAS IMC THIS MORNING. MY DEP ARPT, Y47, NEW HUDSON, IS UNCTLED. I NEEDED A CLRNC. WE USED TO GET CLRNCS VIA RADIO IN THE AIR. DTW RECENTLY HAS ASKED US NOT TO DO ANYMORE (FOR THEIR CONVENIENCE, THEY SAID IT MAKES THEM TOO BUSY). INSTEAD THEY HAVE ASKED US TO PHONE CLRNCS BEFORE DEP. I HAVE DONE SO IN PAST. HOWEVER, WITH ONLY THE 10 MINS VOID TIME, RUNNING FROM THE PHONE BOOTH, TO CAR, TO ACFT, TO (WITH ACFT) RUN-UP AREA, AND FINALLY PERFORM RUN-UP, NOT ENOUGH TIME! TO AVOID THIS CRAZE, I TOOK MY CELLULAR PHONE INTO THE ACFT. I THEN CALLED DTW (ON THE GND) AFTER MY RUN-UP, WITH ENG RUNNING. NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO HEAR. I RECEIVED AND READ BACK CLRNC. I TOOK OFF AND CLBED TO 'MY CLRED?': YQG VOR. DTW SAID I WAS 'CLRED' TO FLY AND CLB HDG 250 DEGS. APPARENTLY I MISHEARD CLRNC. RECOMMENDATIONS: ALLOW US TO USE RADIO, IN AIR, WHILE STILL VMC, FOR CLRNC, GIVE LONGER VOID TIMES, GIVE A GND FREQ FOR Y47 PLTS. I CALLED DTW AND SPOKE TO A MGR. HIS RECOMMENDATION: CALL AN HR IN ADVANCE FOR A 10 MIN WINDOW VOID TIME. NOTE: THEY SHOULD MAKE THIS MORE 'PUBLIC INFO' THROUGH MAILINGS.
