Narrative:
While in cruise to ags from clt at 8000 ft, flying to the colliers VOR (75 mi northeast), we received a traffic call from ATC (charlotte departure). They told us we had traffic at our 2 O'clock position, 1000 ft above us at 9000 ft. We were in and out of clouds at 8000 ft and did not see any traffic. Shortly after this, the traffic appeared on TCASII and was descending. The traffic was 800 ft above us when it first appeared on TCASII. We received a 'descend' RA from TCASII and immediately began a descent at approximately 1500 FPM. I notified ATC of our situation and they agreed with what we were doing and added, 'expedite descent!' according to TCASII, we missed the target by 300 ft vertically and less than 100 ft horizontally. We notified ATC when clear of the conflict and they (charlotte departure) cleared us back to our previous altitude. We felt we performed as we should have and we were pleased with the operation of our TCASII as well.

Title: FLC OF AN LTT DSNDED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA RESULTING IN A NMAC.
Narrative: WHILE IN CRUISE TO AGS FROM CLT AT 8000 FT, FLYING TO THE COLLIERS VOR (75 MI NE), WE RECEIVED A TFC CALL FROM ATC (CHARLOTTE DEP). THEY TOLD US WE HAD TFC AT OUR 2 O'CLOCK POS, 1000 FT ABOVE US AT 9000 FT. WE WERE IN AND OUT OF CLOUDS AT 8000 FT AND DID NOT SEE ANY TFC. SHORTLY AFTER THIS, THE TFC APPEARED ON TCASII AND WAS DSNDING. THE TFC WAS 800 FT ABOVE US WHEN IT FIRST APPEARED ON TCASII. WE RECEIVED A 'DSND' RA FROM TCASII AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN A DSCNT AT APPROX 1500 FPM. I NOTIFIED ATC OF OUR SITUATION AND THEY AGREED WITH WHAT WE WERE DOING AND ADDED, 'EXPEDITE DSCNT!' ACCORDING TO TCASII, WE MISSED THE TARGET BY 300 FT VERTLY AND LESS THAN 100 FT HORIZLY. WE NOTIFIED ATC WHEN CLR OF THE CONFLICT AND THEY (CHARLOTTE DEP) CLRED US BACK TO OUR PREVIOUS ALT. WE FELT WE PERFORMED AS WE SHOULD HAVE AND WE WERE PLEASED WITH THE OP OF OUR TCASII AS WELL.
