Narrative:
I stopped to better observe traffic in pattern. The tower controller, confused that I was not at the hold line, did not call me but cleared aircraft #2 behind me, for takeoff. Hearing this, I told tower I was #1 and tower explained confusion. I departed next, after aircraft #2, without incident. This was a very minor occurrence but was blown all out of proportion by the accident prevention specialist.
