Narrative:
Approximately XA25 hours we were put into position and hold on runway 28C pittsburgh international airport. This runway is designed with a displaced threshold which during nighttime operations is completely unlighted. We remained in this position for an extended period of time with no further update information. When advised cleared for takeoff I predicated my acknowledgement with our concern and total uneasy feeling of being left on an unlighted portion of an active runway for an extended period of time. We commenced our takeoff roll. There was further discussion initiated by the controller (tower), remarks were made by others exclusive of this crew. At 65 KTS, ATC ordered us to abort our takeoff with no further explanation. When clear of the runway we requested reasons for abort. We were directed to make a right turn on taxiway west so as to be in position for another takeoff. (This radio transmission was made by a different controller.) first controller's voice seemed to be a male voice. Second controller's voice seemed to be a female voice.
