Narrative:
During the taxi from the ramp, we stopped at what we thought was the hold spot between the ramp and taxiway rm at ewr airport. When we called ground control for taxi they informed us we had missed the hold spot and were sitting on the taxiway. When I had read the taxi procedures, I had confused which end of parking ramp (taxiway east), had the hold spot. Later that night due to poor markings we taxied over the spot a second time. Taxiway rm turns into our parking ramp about a 1/3 of the way through our ramp, with a spot on the taxi line separating the 2. Being unfamiliar with the spot and the procedures, as well as poor markings were all contributing factors. Local knowledge has corrected this problem for me but others could use better markings.

Title: FLC MISSES TAXI HOLD MARK TWICE.
Narrative: DURING THE TAXI FROM THE RAMP, WE STOPPED AT WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS THE HOLD SPOT BTWN THE RAMP AND TXWY RM AT EWR ARPT. WHEN WE CALLED GND CTL FOR TAXI THEY INFORMED US WE HAD MISSED THE HOLD SPOT AND WERE SITTING ON THE TXWY. WHEN I HAD READ THE TAXI PROCS, I HAD CONFUSED WHICH END OF PARKING RAMP (TXWY E), HAD THE HOLD SPOT. LATER THAT NIGHT DUE TO POOR MARKINGS WE TAXIED OVER THE SPOT A SECOND TIME. TXWY RM TURNS INTO OUR PARKING RAMP ABOUT A 1/3 OF THE WAY THROUGH OUR RAMP, WITH A SPOT ON THE TAXI LINE SEPARATING THE 2. BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH THE SPOT AND THE PROCS, AS WELL AS POOR MARKINGS WERE ALL CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. LCL KNOWLEDGE HAS CORRECTED THIS PROB FOR ME BUT OTHERS COULD USE BETTER MARKINGS.
