Narrative:
Flight of 2, small transport X and small transport Y from ocracoke to ewn. Mixup between pilots and communication/frequency breakdown, caused each pilot to think the other had gained clearance into cherry point restr area. Controller advised penetration and said the restr area was cold and intrusion was 'no problem, just be careful in the future, especially week days.' in future, more complete pilot preflight brief will resolve problem.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT OF 2 SMT PVT ACFT PENETRATED A RESTR AREA BECAUSE EACH OTHER THOUGHT THAT THE OTHER HAD OBTAINED A CLRNC.
Narrative: FLT OF 2, SMT X AND SMT Y FROM OCRACOKE TO EWN. MIXUP BTWN PLTS AND COM/FREQ BREAKDOWN, CAUSED EACH PLT TO THINK THE OTHER HAD GAINED CLRNC INTO CHERRY POINT RESTR AREA. CTLR ADVISED PENETRATION AND SAID THE RESTR AREA WAS COLD AND INTRUSION WAS 'NO PROB, JUST BE CAREFUL IN THE FUTURE, ESPECIALLY WK DAYS.' IN FUTURE, MORE COMPLETE PLT PREFLT BRIEF WILL RESOLVE PROB.
