Narrative:

The student pilot planned a 50 mi cross country from (orh) worcester to (pym) plymouth. This plan was reviewed and discussed with his cfii. The student started his cross country and arrived at plymouth a few mins after ETA. He did a touch and go, and started his return flight to orh. At (IB9) mansfield, he became disoriented, tuned (gdm) VOR to a 'from' flag and became lost, flying over the top of (bdl) bradley intersection at 3200 ft into class 'C' airspace, without establishing required radio communication. Flying out 5 mi west, he made a 180 degree turn and flew back over bdl. 15 mi northeast of (bdl) class C airspace, student contacted bdl approach on 119.0 and asked for a directional finding (DF) steer to orh. I called bdl tower to discuss the incident. The student pilot with approximately 68 hours of dual, received 6 hours solo time, 4 hours dual cross country. This incident was his first solo cross country. The WX was 4000 sct, 7 mi visibility at the time. The student's solo privileges have been suspended until additional training has been completed and reviewed by 2 cfis.
