Narrative:
Slc has issued 3 new arrs, the jammn, bear, and carter arrs. I believe they are unsafe for 2 reasons. The large amount of information on the chart requires a great deal of 'head in the cockpit' time. Both north and south arrs on the same plate is an altitude excursion waiting to happen, and in fact has. I believe the problem arose when ATC moved their workload into the cockpit. The contributing factor is that ATC issues these plates without getting any end user input. I discovered the problem when the arrival aircraft ahead of me broke an altitude. My suggestion for a corrective action is 2 plates, 1 for north and 1 for south arrs. Plus the elimination of the many 10-20 mi segments on various VOR's during the arrival.
