Narrative:
Entered downwind at bna airport at 7000 ft for landing on runway 02. Abeam approach end of runway 02L, I was given clearance to land on runway 02L from 6000 ft (a high tight VFR approach). Descending from 6000 ft I was given traffic to follow, but never saw the traffic. Tower also advised a cessna aircraft had overshot runway 02R centerline. I became distracted looking for the traffic in front and to the right and lined up on runway 02C thinking I was on runway 02L. I landed on runway 02C thinking I was on runway 02L. Tower was busy talking to the cessna aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 321410: I did not realize that we were on runway 02C until the nosewheel touched down. Runway 02C was notamed closed for maintenance, and it was stated as closed on the ATIS. Fortunately, the runway was clear of men and equipment at the time of our landing. The bna tower controller must not have noticed that we had flown through the runway 02L localizer and were landing on runway 02C, because he did not issue any warnings or corrective instructions to us until our wheels were on the ground.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC LANDS ACFT ON WRONG AND CLOSED RWY.
Narrative: ENTERED DOWNWIND AT BNA ARPT AT 7000 FT FOR LNDG ON RWY 02. ABEAM APCH END OF RWY 02L, I WAS GIVEN CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 02L FROM 6000 FT (A HIGH TIGHT VFR APCH). DSNDING FROM 6000 FT I WAS GIVEN TFC TO FOLLOW, BUT NEVER SAW THE TFC. TWR ALSO ADVISED A CESSNA ACFT HAD OVERSHOT RWY 02R CTRLINE. I BECAME DISTRACTED LOOKING FOR THE TFC IN FRONT AND TO THE R AND LINED UP ON RWY 02C THINKING I WAS ON RWY 02L. I LANDED ON RWY 02C THINKING I WAS ON RWY 02L. TWR WAS BUSY TALKING TO THE CESSNA ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 321410: I DID NOT REALIZE THAT WE WERE ON RWY 02C UNTIL THE NOSEWHEEL TOUCHED DOWN. RWY 02C WAS NOTAMED CLOSED FOR MAINT, AND IT WAS STATED AS CLOSED ON THE ATIS. FORTUNATELY, THE RWY WAS CLR OF MEN AND EQUIP AT THE TIME OF OUR LNDG. THE BNA TWR CTLR MUST NOT HAVE NOTICED THAT WE HAD FLOWN THROUGH THE RWY 02L LOC AND WERE LNDG ON RWY 02C, BECAUSE HE DID NOT ISSUE ANY WARNINGS OR CORRECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS TO US UNTIL OUR WHEELS WERE ON THE GND.
