Narrative:
Another baron was holding short of opposite runway. Tower cleared me for takeoff, other baron entered opposite runway and began takeoff. Visibility was 2 mi, it took me a second to realize and I immediately called on the radio, 'what is that other aircraft doing on the runway?' the other aircraft immediately exited the runway to the east, I broke ground and started an immediate turn to the west. There was no immediate danger. It is my judgement that the other pilot heard 'baron XXX cleared for takeoff' and thought she had been cleared. I had been cleared into position and hold 2 mins prior to takeoff, so there was no doubt that I had been the one cleared for takeoff. I confirmed this with ATC after my departure.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TWR CLRED RPTR'S BARON FOR TKOF ON RWY 19, SVFR CLRNC. SECOND BARON AT RWY 01 THOUGHT TKOF CLRNC WAS FOR HER AND TAXIED ONTO RWY 01 AND STARTED TKOF. FIRST BARON SAW SECOND ONE AND ASKED TWR WHO WAS ON THE RWY, AND THE SECOND BARON ABORTED AND TURNED OFF ON TXWY.
Narrative: ANOTHER BARON WAS HOLDING SHORT OF OPPOSITE RWY. TWR CLRED ME FOR TKOF, OTHER BARON ENTERED OPPOSITE RWY AND BEGAN TKOF. VISIBILITY WAS 2 MI, IT TOOK ME A SECOND TO REALIZE AND I IMMEDIATELY CALLED ON THE RADIO, 'WHAT IS THAT OTHER ACFT DOING ON THE RWY?' THE OTHER ACFT IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE RWY TO THE E, I BROKE GND AND STARTED AN IMMEDIATE TURN TO THE W. THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE DANGER. IT IS MY JUDGEMENT THAT THE OTHER PLT HEARD 'BARON XXX CLRED FOR TKOF' AND THOUGHT SHE HAD BEEN CLRED. I HAD BEEN CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD 2 MINS PRIOR TO TKOF, SO THERE WAS NO DOUBT THAT I HAD BEEN THE ONE CLRED FOR TKOF. I CONFIRMED THIS WITH ATC AFTER MY DEP.
