Narrative:
At approximately XA30, requested FL390 and received clearance to climb from FL370 to FL390 from hnl commercial radio. Reported position 47 north - 150 west at XA44 with us level at FL390. Hnl told us to contact sfo commercial radio. We did and sfo said they had our 150 west report and gave us primary and secondary frequency and SELCAL check. At 45 north - 140 west made progress report to sfo showing us at FL390, time XB29. Shortly thereafter, sfo asked for our altitude and our intentions. We inquired why they asked and they asked if we had gotten a clearance to be at FL370 by 139 west, we told them we had not received any such clearance from hnl or them. We were cleared to descend to FL370 and were level at XB51.

Title: FL390 WAS REQUESTED AND RECEIVED FROM HNL (THROUGH OAK OCEANIC). WHEN CONTACTING SFO, FLC WAS ASKED IF THEY HAD THE CLRNC TO FL370. THEY HAD NOT. CLRNC THEN ISSUED.
Narrative: AT APPROX XA30, REQUESTED FL390 AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO CLB FROM FL370 TO FL390 FROM HNL COMMERCIAL RADIO. RPTED POS 47 N - 150 W AT XA44 WITH US LEVEL AT FL390. HNL TOLD US TO CONTACT SFO COMMERCIAL RADIO. WE DID AND SFO SAID THEY HAD OUR 150 W RPT AND GAVE US PRIMARY AND SECONDARY FREQ AND SELCAL CHK. AT 45 N - 140 W MADE PROGRESS RPT TO SFO SHOWING US AT FL390, TIME XB29. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, SFO ASKED FOR OUR ALT AND OUR INTENTIONS. WE INQUIRED WHY THEY ASKED AND THEY ASKED IF WE HAD GOTTEN A CLRNC TO BE AT FL370 BY 139 W, WE TOLD THEM WE HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY SUCH CLRNC FROM HNL OR THEM.
