The flight crew failed to change their altimeter settings climbing through FL180. Consequently, the flight crew leveled off 250 ft low. The alert ARTCC controller suggested the flight crew check their altitude which alerted them to their error.

Narrative:

During climb out from pdx, we requested ride reports and conditions and a different than originally filed altitude. We neglected to finish the climb check and therefore found ourselves level at FL330 (in actual fact 32750 ft due to altimeter setting). Center asked us to verify our altitude and we noticed the erroneous altimeter settings. No conflict.
