Flight crew misinterpreted clearance. Though they were filed den- sauna-bgd, when receiving clearance from ATC the clearance was pykes 1 departure, published transition. Thus, they were cleared to published because it was the transition on the pykes 1 departure. They left the departure at sauna which was incorrect.

Narrative:

Den clearance delivery gave us a clearance that read cleared to dfw via pykes 1, published transition, as filed. We had filed den-sauna-bgd-BOIDS5-dfw. After takeoff, we were given a turn to intercept the published transition, as filed. Upon reaching the sauna intersection, we proceeded to bgd. ATC asked if we were proceeding to published. We informed him we were proceeding to bgd as per our clearance. He seemed to think we should be going to published as cleared us as such. Both the captain and I agreed that after reaching the sauna intersection on the published transition, we were to proceed direct to bdg.

Title: FLC MISINTERPRETED CLRNC. THOUGH THEY WERE FILED DEN- SAUNA-BGD, WHEN RECEIVING CLRNC FROM ATC THE CLRNC WAS PYKES 1 DEP, PUBLISHED TRANSITION. THUS, THEY WERE CLRED TO PUBLISHED BECAUSE IT WAS THE TRANSITION ON THE PYKES 1 DEP. THEY LEFT THE DEP AT SAUNA WHICH WAS INCORRECT.

Narrative: DEN CLRNC DELIVERY GAVE US A CLRNC THAT READ CLRED TO DFW VIA PYKES 1, PUBLISHED TRANSITION, AS FILED. WE HAD FILED DEN-SAUNA-BGD-BOIDS5-DFW. AFTER TKOF, WE WERE GIVEN A TURN TO INTERCEPT THE PUBLISHED TRANSITION, AS FILED. UPON REACHING THE SAUNA INTXN, WE PROCEEDED TO BGD. ATC ASKED IF WE WERE PROCEEDING TO PUBLISHED. WE INFORMED HIM WE WERE PROCEEDING TO BGD AS PER OUR CLRNC. HE SEEMED TO THINK WE SHOULD BE GOING TO PUBLISHED AS CLRED US AS SUCH. BOTH THE CAPT AND I AGREED THAT AFTER REACHING THE SAUNA INTXN ON THE PUBLISHED TRANSITION, WE WERE TO PROCEED DIRECT TO BDG.
