Narrative:

Air carrier X cleared into position and hold runway 35L. As we pulled onto the runway it appeared an aircraft was lining up on our runway but we could not determine if a plane was actually lined up to land runway 35L. This is unusual because procedures include notifying the landing aircraft that an aircraft is in position on the runway. We were given clearance onto the runway then clearance for takeoff. Shortly after that the tower asked if air carrier Y was going to land runway 35L then there was pause while the tower controller realized that there was a conflict and told Y to go around. I don't know what happened but it sounded like the tower controller was completely surprised with Y lined up to land on our runway.

Title: ACR Y APCH TO WRONG RWY OCCUPIED RWY HAD CONFLICT WITH ACR X TKOF.

Narrative: ACR X CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 35L. AS WE PULLED ONTO THE RWY IT APPEARED AN ACFT WAS LINING UP ON OUR RWY BUT WE COULD NOT DETERMINE IF A PLANE WAS ACTUALLY LINED UP TO LAND RWY 35L. THIS IS UNUSUAL BECAUSE PROCS INCLUDE NOTIFYING THE LNDG ACFT THAT AN ACFT IS IN POS ON THE RWY. WE WERE GIVEN CLRNC ONTO THE RWY THEN CLRNC FOR TKOF. SHORTLY AFTER THAT THE TWR ASKED IF ACR Y WAS GOING TO LAND RWY 35L THEN THERE WAS PAUSE WHILE THE TWR CTLR REALIZED THAT THERE WAS A CONFLICT AND TOLD Y TO GAR. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE TWR CTLR WAS COMPLETELY SURPRISED WITH Y LINED UP TO LAND ON OUR RWY.
