Narrative:
Scheduled flight mia-mco flew with revenue passenger even though aircraft had a grounding maintenance item. The aircraft was originally taken off this flight and swapped to another aircraft, however, miscom between dispatch office and airport personnel failed to reach flight crew to advise of this situation. Flight crew took wrong aircraft to mco. Repeated attempts to contact crew via telesis and ACARS resulted in failure. Upon arrival mco, crew was contacted and advised of problem. The return flight was canceled and a maintenance ferry permit was issued to return aircraft and crew to mia for required repairs. Although the maintenance item in question was non-critical (engine tailpipe temperature probes), I felt it was necessary to report this as a precautionary measure. The engine tailpipe temperature probes are 'life-limited' parts and require removal and replacement at scheduled intervals. Flight crew reported no problems whatsoever with aircraft during both flts. Communication problem is being addressed by management to prevent further problems of this nature in the future.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: INTRACOMPANY MISCOM ON ACFT CHANGE. FLC NOT ADVISED OF ACFT CHANGE DUE TO GROUNDING MAINT ITEM. ACFT FLOWN TO DEST, BUT THEN FLC RECEIVED MESSAGE, A MAINT FERRY PERMIT WAS ISSUED AND ACFT FERRIED BACK FOR REPAIR.
Narrative: SCHEDULED FLT MIA-MCO FLEW WITH REVENUE PAX EVEN THOUGH ACFT HAD A GROUNDING MAINT ITEM. THE ACFT WAS ORIGINALLY TAKEN OFF THIS FLT AND SWAPPED TO ANOTHER ACFT, HOWEVER, MISCOM BTWN DISPATCH OFFICE AND ARPT PERSONNEL FAILED TO REACH FLC TO ADVISE OF THIS SIT. FLC TOOK WRONG ACFT TO MCO. REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT CREW VIA TELESIS AND ACARS RESULTED IN FAILURE. UPON ARR MCO, CREW WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED OF PROB. THE RETURN FLT WAS CANCELED AND A MAINT FERRY PERMIT WAS ISSUED TO RETURN ACFT AND CREW TO MIA FOR REQUIRED REPAIRS. ALTHOUGH THE MAINT ITEM IN QUESTION WAS NON-CRITICAL (ENG TAILPIPE TEMP PROBES), I FELT IT WAS NECESSARY TO RPT THIS AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE. THE ENG TAILPIPE TEMP PROBES ARE 'LIFE-LIMITED' PARTS AND REQUIRE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT AT SCHEDULED INTERVALS. FLC RPTED NO PROBS WHATSOEVER WITH ACFT DURING BOTH FLTS. COM PROB IS BEING ADDRESSED BY MGMNT TO PREVENT FURTHER PROBS OF THIS NATURE IN THE FUTURE.
