Narrative:

Inbound to houston iah airport, ZHU issued a frequency change. First officer changed frequencys and called center with no response. Momentarily, another aircraft called us and said to contact hou on another frequency. First officer called hou and hou came back with an immediate traffic call, 'VFR traffic 12 O'clock less than a mi.' at that moment a piper cheyenne passed just below and to our left within 200 ft. On our initial frequency change ZHU had given us an incorrect frequency. By the time the other aircraft called and gave us the correct frequency, it was much too late to take evasive action.
