Narrative:
After takeoff left main gear would not retract with gear handle moved to the full up position. Moved handle to down position and all 3 gear indicated down and locked. Upon trying to re- retract the gear handle, felt considerable friction in handle at approximately mid retract position. Returned handle to full down, contacted ord operations and dispatch. With dispatch concurrence elected to make an overweight landing at ord in accordance with FM1 19 1.10c2. We were unable to continue the flight according to plan. Landed without any further problem.

Title: S80 FLC HAS GEAR RETRACT PROB AFTER TKOF. RETURN LAND.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF L MAIN GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT WITH GEAR HANDLE MOVED TO THE FULL UP POS. MOVED HANDLE TO DOWN POS AND ALL 3 GEAR INDICATED DOWN AND LOCKED. UPON TRYING TO RE- RETRACT THE GEAR HANDLE, FELT CONSIDERABLE FRICTION IN HANDLE AT APPROX MID RETRACT POS. RETURNED HANDLE TO FULL DOWN, CONTACTED ORD OPS AND DISPATCH. WITH DISPATCH CONCURRENCE ELECTED TO MAKE AN OVERWT LNDG AT ORD IN ACCORDANCE WITH FM1 19 1.10C2. WE WERE UNABLE TO CONTINUE THE FLT ACCORDING TO PLAN. LANDED WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROB.
