Narrative:
After departure during gear uplatch check, got unsatisfactory gear uplatch check. Put gear handle back up, lowered gear handle to mid-point again and uplatch checked ok so did not proceed to cycle gear per communication since it now checked normal. Checked uplatch twice more and checks were normal. After further consideration of history of this problem on aircraft, we notified dispatch and maintenance control that intermittent problem may exist but that we currently had normal indications. Maintenance control had us return to departure airport due to history of problem. Radio contact with dispatch and maintenance control was temporarily lost during the decision process so we got 25 mins from departure before contact reestablished and we turned around and returned.

Title: FAULTY LNDG GEAR UPLATCH. AFTER INITIAL UNSATISFACTORY UPLATCH CHK, FLC WAS ABLE TO GET SATISFACTORY CHK, BUT DUE TO ACFT'S HISTORY OF SIMILAR PROBS, COMPANY MAINT REQUESTED FLC TO RETURN TO DEP ARPT.
Narrative: AFTER DEP DURING GEAR UPLATCH CHK, GOT UNSATISFACTORY GEAR UPLATCH CHK. PUT GEAR HANDLE BACK UP, LOWERED GEAR HANDLE TO MID-POINT AGAIN AND UPLATCH CHKED OK SO DID NOT PROCEED TO CYCLE GEAR PER COM SINCE IT NOW CHKED NORMAL. CHKED UPLATCH TWICE MORE AND CHKS WERE NORMAL. AFTER FURTHER CONSIDERATION OF HISTORY OF THIS PROB ON ACFT, WE NOTIFIED DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL THAT INTERMITTENT PROB MAY EXIST BUT THAT WE CURRENTLY HAD NORMAL INDICATIONS. MAINT CTL HAD US RETURN TO DEP ARPT DUE TO HISTORY OF PROB. RADIO CONTACT WITH DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL WAS TEMPORARILY LOST DURING THE DECISION PROCESS SO WE GOT 25 MINS FROM DEP BEFORE CONTACT REESTABLISHED AND WE TURNED AROUND AND RETURNED.
