Narrative:

Used wrong altimeter setting to level off at 12000 ft. First officer noticed a difference and captain asked for jfk altimeter. Controller advised correct setting, and first officer (flying) climbed to 12000 ft. Captain read ATIS, incorrectly set wind velocity 30-13 as altimeter. 29.56 was correct.

Title: THE FLC MISTOOK THE WINDS 300 DEGS 13 KTS COPIED FROM THE ATIS 3013 AS THE ALTIMETER SETTING DURING THE DSCNT TO 12000 FT. THE ALTIMETER BEING 29 PT 56. THE FLC DSNDED ABOUT 600 FT BELOW THEIR ASSIGNED ALT TO ABOUT 11400 FT. THE CTLR CAUGHT THE ERROR AT THE SAME TIME THE FLC WAS INQUIRING ABOUT THE ALTIMETER SETTING.
