Narrative:
Upon return of a 5 hour cross country flight, I thought I had closed my VFR flight plan with long beach tower while taxiing to parking. About 2 hours later that evening, I called the local FSS to confirm that the flight plan had been closed but the WX briefer could not confirm it. Usually the FSS that answers the 1-800-WX-brief phone number in my area is riverside FSS. The FSS that answered that evening was rancho murieta FSS and the briefer said he could not access my flight plan but would pass on my message to riverside. The next morning I called once again to confirm the closure of the flight plan and riverside FSS confirmed that there was no search in progress for myself or the plane. My concern at the time and in writing this report was to be able and ensure that the flight plan was closed and to avoid a search effort.
