Narrative:
On preflight, right green gear light bulb would not illuminate. Called maintenance (at austin) and told a mechanic and he told me how to change bulb. Pulled bulb out and inspected it, put it back in and it checked bad. I took off, flew to destination with gear down and landed. Had bulb replaced. I left gear down because I knew gear was down and locked before I took off. I knew there was no gear problem, and I could raise the gear if a problem arose. Landed at destination and had maintenance change bulb. In retrospect, probably should have delayed flight and had maintenance make arrangements to change landing gear bulb at outlying field and delayed flight by several hours. I took off with a known problem with aircraft (burned out bulb), but verified that problem was a bulb and left gear down. If for some reason gear would have had to have been raised could have verified gear down and locked by visual check of gear and no gear horn with flaps below 20 degrees and gear down.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR FLC DISCOVERED THAT THE R MAIN GREEN (DOWN AND LOCKED) LIGHT BULB IS BURNED OUT SO THEY FLY THE NEXT FLT GEAR DOWN.
Narrative: ON PREFLT, R GREEN GEAR LIGHT BULB WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. CALLED MAINT (AT AUSTIN) AND TOLD A MECH AND HE TOLD ME HOW TO CHANGE BULB. PULLED BULB OUT AND INSPECTED IT, PUT IT BACK IN AND IT CHKED BAD. I TOOK OFF, FLEW TO DEST WITH GEAR DOWN AND LANDED. HAD BULB REPLACED. I LEFT GEAR DOWN BECAUSE I KNEW GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED BEFORE I TOOK OFF. I KNEW THERE WAS NO GEAR PROB, AND I COULD RAISE THE GEAR IF A PROB AROSE. LANDED AT DEST AND HAD MAINT CHANGE BULB. IN RETROSPECT, PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE DELAYED FLT AND HAD MAINT MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO CHANGE LNDG GEAR BULB AT OUTLYING FIELD AND DELAYED FLT BY SEVERAL HRS. I TOOK OFF WITH A KNOWN PROB WITH ACFT (BURNED OUT BULB), BUT VERIFIED THAT PROB WAS A BULB AND LEFT GEAR DOWN. IF FOR SOME REASON GEAR WOULD HAVE HAD TO HAVE BEEN RAISED COULD HAVE VERIFIED GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED BY VISUAL CHK OF GEAR AND NO GEAR HORN WITH FLAPS BELOW 20 DEGS AND GEAR DOWN.
