Narrative:
Two ship kc-10 formation in AR609 working with huntress military radar. We finished refueling with 4 F-16's and proceeded towards hancock VOR. We were cleared direct to hancock by huntress radar. We asked huntress if we could go back into AR609, he said standby because they had released the area back to boston ARTCC. We continued on our last clearance by huntress towards hancock until huntress gave us a turn to 010 degrees back towards AR609. We were in contact the whole time with huntress. We were informed when we landed that ZBW reported a near miss between our formation and a civilian aircraft. We had maintained radio contact with huntress the whole time and complied with huntress's instruction. There appears to be some miscom between huntress and boston. The proximity of AR609 to boston's airspace creates the potential for traffic conflicts. A possible solution is to monitor huntress and boston ARTCC while established in AR609. A positive handoff to boston needs to be made when working only with huntress. Supplemental information from acn 328428: we were informed that ZBW had reported a near miss between our formation and a civilian airliner.

Title: AS A FLT OF 2 REFUELING ACFT WERE LEAVING THE HUNTRESS AR609 REFUELING AREA AS PER CLRNC THE FLT REQUESTED TO RETURN TO THE AREA. HUNTRESS CTL TOLD THE FLT TO STANDBY WHILE SUCCESSFULLY COORDINATED WITH ZBW. DURING THAT INTERVAL OF TIME OUTSIDE THE HUNTRESS AR609 REFUELING AREA THE FLC HAD A NEAR MISS IN ZBW AIRSPACE. THE FLT LEARNED AFTER COMPLETING THE MISSION AND LNDG OF THE NEAR MISS.
